"There is a lot of violence, sickness, sadness and doubt in the world. We hope - through Shining Time - we are able to counterbalance the malaise with joyfulness and a sense of hope."
— Britt Allcroft in 1993

Britt Allcroft (born Hillary Mary Allcroft on December 14, 1943 in Worthing, England, United Kingdom) is an English multi-award-winning actress, producer, director and writer. She is the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and Shining Time Station and the co-founder of "The Britt Allcroft Company" with then-husband Angus Wright, known as Britt Allcroft Limited (later replaced as Gullane Entertainment) which was sold and acquired by HiT Entertainment in 2002.

Career

Allcroft is well known for her creation of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and its US counterpart Shining Time Station. She was also the screenwriter, co-producer and director of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, and even supplied the voice of Lady.

She served as producer for the first season and 'Tis A Gift of Shining Time Station along with Rick Siggelkow. She and Siggelkow served as executive producers for the second and third seasons as well as The Family Specials. Nancy Chapelle became the main producer starting with the second season. She, Siggelkow and Chapelle also co-produced The Jukebox Band. She also was the producer for Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales.

She also created the television shows "Magic Adventures of Mumfie" and "Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets".

In May 2000, Allcroft was a director and advisor of Gullane, but by 2003 (a year after Gullane was sold and acquired by HiT), Allcroft had resigned from her remaining positions with the company. This was attributed to the poor reception of Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

Since the early 2010s, Allcroft and Rick Siggelkow have been trying to get Shining Time Station onto DVD or back on television, but in 2021, Allcroft revealed that Mattel had the rights for the show and the company's current methods are making the chances of the series resurfacing on DVD very slim.
