Crawdad is a traditional southern American folksong. The Jukebox Band perform the song in the Season 3 episode, Schemer Goes Camping, and on the audio cassette, Birthday Party Singsongs. The song is a variation on an older piece named Sweet Thing, and is a tune written to accompany a social song and dance event called a "play party". The song is about workers going fishing to catch crawdad crabs for their meal. DiDi and Tito try to convince Tex and Rex to go camping with them by letting them perform the song, to get them into the right spirit for camping. In Birthday Party Singsongs, the song is requested to stop Jukebox News to continue the birthday party. It was also planned to appear on the unreleased video, A Jukebox Hoedown, where the band performed it for fun following a particularly good performance of Freight Train.
Lyrics[]
You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, Babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
and we'll go fishing by the crawdad hole
Honey, Sugar Baby mine.
Yonder comes a man with a pack on his back, Honey,
Yonder comes a man with a pack on his back, Babe,
Yonder comes a man with a pack on his back,
Tottin' all the crawdads he can pack,
Honey, Sugar Baby mine.
Brrrr!
Sittin' on the ice 'til my feet get cold, Honey,
Sittin' on the ice 'til my feet get cold, Babe,
Sittin' on the ice 'til my feet get cold,
Watchin' that crawdad dig his hole
Honey, Sugar Baby mine. You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, Babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
and we'll go fishing by the crawdad hole
Honey, Sugar Baby mine.
Watcha' gonna do when the lake runs dry, Honey
Watcha' gonna do when the lake runs dry, Babe
Watcha' gonna do when the lake runs dry
sit on the bank and watch the Crawdads die
Honey, Sugar Baby mine. You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey
You get a line and I'll get a pole, Babe
You get a line and I'll get a pole
and we'll go fishing by the crawdad hole
Honey, Sugar Baby you're mine.
