Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends

Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (later shortened to just Thomas & Friends) is the name of a British television series based on the Railway Series by the Reverend W. Awdry. It was adapted for television by Britt Allcroft using stories from the Railway Series before using television-exclusive stories written by independent writers. It focuses on a fleet of locomotives (most prominently Thomas) and their adventures on the Island of Sodor, a small island off the coast of England. The series has spawned 24 television seasons, 1 theatrical film and 13 feature-length specials. Airing in the United Kingdom in 1984, the show was brought to American audiences through Shining Time Station in 1989. However, the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise is a completely independent entity, and is entirely unrelated to the United States of America.

The series was filmed by HiT Entertainment starting from it's acquisition of Gullane Entertainment in 2003.
